Your safari at a glance

Day 1 – Arrival in Tanzania

Your journey begins with a warm welcome at Kilimanjaro International Airport. A private transfer brings you to Arusha Coffee Lodge, nestled within a peaceful coffee estate on the outskirts of Arusha. Settle into one of the only 12 elegant Plantation Suites, wander the gardens, or simply breathe in the fragrant mountain air.

Day 2 – Tarangire National Park: first flight, first wildlife

After breakfast, you can enjoy a coffee plantation tour. After an early lunch in the gardens of the lodge, you will be chauffeured to Arusha Airport for your first fly adventure to Kuro Airstrip in Tarangire National Park. The small aircraft lifts off smoothly, carrying you over vast landscapes as you see the world unfold in patches of green, gold and rust.
Your game drive begins the moment you land. Tarangire reveals itself slowly: giant elephant herds, sculptural baobab trees, and the winding Tarangire River draw wildlife like a magnet.
By afternoon, you arrive at Treetops Lodge, your luxury hideaway built high among the baobabs. Watch the sunset from your private deck as the savannah shifts into evening light.

Day 3 – Tarangire National Park: walking, wildlife, and Maasai culture

Wake to golden light spilling across the plains. Today brings a mix of experiences that reveal Tarangire’s many layers. You can opt for game drives through elephant corridors and visit a Maasai village for authentic cultural encounters. Enjoy a sundowner in the bush as the sky turns amber, after which you get into the 4×4 for a night game drive to spot nocturnal wildlife rarely seen during the day.

Day 4 – From Tarangire to The Manor at Ngorongoro

After breakfast, you head toward the Ngorongoro highlands. Your next lodge, The Manor at Ngorongoro, blends old-world elegance with warm Tanzanian hospitality. You can either enjoy a short flight or drive approximately 3 hours to your next destination. Who knows what you may see on your way?

Spend the afternoon however you like. You can explore the rolling coffee fields, go horseback riding, cycle through the estate or relax during your spa treatment while watching the sunset. Unwind with a glass of wine by the fire.

Day 5 – The Ngorongoro Crater: wildlife wonderland

Before dawn, you descend into the legendary Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage site with one of the highest concentrations of wildlife in Africa. The crater floor is a world unto itself. Here, you might encounter black rhinos, lions patrolling the grasslands, or vast herds of wildebeest, buffalo and zebras.

Your picnic lunch is served on the crater floor, surrounded by wildlife and epic views. After six unforgettable hours, you ascend back to The Manor for a relaxed evening.

Day 6 – Lake Manyara (optional) and flight to Serengeti National Park

Choose a peaceful morning at The Manor or add a game drive in Lake Manyara National Park, known for its flamingos, lush groundwater forests, and the occasional tree-climbing lion.

After lunch, your bush flight lifts you toward the Serengeti. As the plane descends over endless plains, anticipation builds. Your guide from Serengeti Migration Camp meets you at the airstrip and takes you on a game drive toward camp.

End the day with a sundowner overlooking the Grumeti River. This moment will surely stay with you forever.

Day 7 – Serengeti National Park: predators, plains, and the Great Migration

Spend the entire day exploring the beating heart of the Serengeti. Ancient kopjes rise like islands from the golden grass. Predators patrol the plains. Life unfolds in every direction. A picnic lunch keeps you deep in the wilderness all day. Return to camp as the sun dips low, painting everything gold.

Day 8 – Walking along the Grumeti River and flight back to Arusha

This morning, take a gentle walking safari along the Grumeti River. It’s a serene farewell to the Serengeti, a chance to absorb the sounds, scents, and textures of the bush one last time.

After lunch in the park, you fly back to Arusha, where a dayroom at Arusha Coffee Lodge awaits. Shower, relax, and prepare for your international flight home.

Travel stories

What our guests say about THIS safari

“Al op de eerste dag zagen we leeuwen, olifanten, zebra’s, gnoes, luipaarden, apen, buffels… John wist vanalles te vertellen over de dieren, we hebben zoveel bijgeleerd. Het was ook heel fijn te zien hoe hij er zelf van genoot en de dieren hun rust en vrijheid respecteerde.”

– N DC

“The journey itself was a dream come true. What we really appreciate is that the guide had a lot of respect for nature and wildlife. No walkie-talkies/radio connection on board but looking for the animals together and causing as little stress/nuisance as possible.”

Frequently asked questions

FAQ about this air safari adventure

Didn’t find the answer you were looking for?

We’re happy to help! If your question isn’t covered in our FAQ or you’d like personal advice, feel free to reach out. Our team will gladly guide you in planning your perfect safari.

What exactly is an air safari, and how does it differ from a traditional safari?

An air safari uses short flights between national parks instead of long road transfers. You travel in small, sturdy bush planes that land at remote airstrips near your lodges and camps. It’s faster, more comfortable, and turns travel days into scenic highlights. Instead of spending hours in a vehicle, your flight takes about 30 to 90 minutes as you watch landscapes unfold below.

Are small aircraft safe for safari travel?

Yes, completely. Bush flights, as we call them, are a standard, regulated part of safari travel across East Africa. Pilots are highly experienced and trained specifically for these conditions. The aircraft are well-maintained and designed for short, scenic routes between airstrips. Weather is monitored closely, and safety always comes first. Thousands of travelers fly these routes every year without incident.

How much luggage can we bring on the bush flights?

Most bush flights allow 15 kg per person in soft-sided bags (no hard suitcases due to limited space). Your safari expert will guide you on packing efficiently, and any extra luggage can be stored safely in Arusha during your holiday. Many travelers find that this limit actually simplifies packing and keeps things light and easy.

Will we see all the major wildlife highlights on this itinerary?

Absolutely. Tarangire, Ngorongoro, and the Serengeti form the classic Northern Tanzania circuit. This region offers excellent opportunities to see the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino), as well as cheetahs, hippos, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, and countless other species. Depending on the season, you may also witness parts of the Great Migration.

Can a fly-in safari itinerary be customized or extended?

Yes, entirely. Every Ajabu Adventures safari is tailor-made. Want to add an extra day in the Serengeti? Swap a lodge for a different style? Add a beach extension in Zanzibar? We’ll adjust the route, duration, accommodation, and activities to match your interests, budget, and travel dates. Just tell us what you’re dreaming of.
