Frequently asked questions
FAQ about a family safari in Tanzania
Didn’t find the answer you were looking for?
Is a family safari in Tanzania possible during school holidays?
Tanzania is a year-round safari destination, and many families travel during school holidays. Summer (June – August) and winter breaks (December – January) match perfectly with peak wildlife viewing, while spring holidays align with the green season; a quieter, great-value time for families.
What age is recommended for children on safari?
Safaris in Tanzania are suitable for all ages, from young children to teenagers. Kids are welcome in the national parks, with reduced park fees for those under 15. Because every family differs, we tailor the program to suit children and parents, balancing wildlife adventures with pool time, cultural encounters, and relaxing moments.
Are the lodges and camps suitable for families?
Absolutely. We carefully select lodges and camps that make families feel at home, from spacious family rooms and safari tents where you can stay together to private beach villas in Zanzibar for the perfect ending by the ocean. Most lodges offer swimming pools for downtime, flexible meal times to fit around the kids, and staff who genuinely love children and happily help to keep them entertained. It’s all about creating that intimate family experience, where comfort and adventure go hand in hand.
What kind of activities are available for families besides game drives?
We understand children don’t want to spend endless hours in the car, so we will create enough variety and experiences to beat screen time! Beyond game drives, you enjoy scavenger hunts, fun tuk-tuk rides, a thrilling zip line between baobab trees, interacting with local families, or stargazing around the campfire. It’s about creating moments where teens feel thrilled, younger children stay engaged, and parents get to soak up everything.
What should we pack for a family safari in Tanzania?
Keep it comfortable and casual, ideally in soft-sided bags. Pack light layers for warm days and cool mornings, closed shoes for game drives, and sandals for the beach. Don’t forget hats, sun protection, and insect repellent. Binoculars are a must. A camera, journal, or favorite book keeps the kids entertained. Pack a few long-lasting snacks for the longer drives and leave the water bottles to us. We have a little surprise waiting!
