We’re happy to help! If your question isn’t covered in our FAQ or you’d like personal advice, feel free to reach out. Our team will gladly guide you in planning your perfect safari.

Which mountain is best for first-time trekkers?

Mount Meru is often recommended for first-time trekkers, even though it is technically more demanding than most standard Kilimanjaro routes. The trails are steeper, summit night is more exposed, and the daily elevation gains are more abrupt, offering less time for gradual acclimatization. Despite this, the ascent from Momella Gate to Socialist Peak is relatively short and supported by park rangers and well-supported by park rangers. For many beginners, this combination makes Mount Meru an ideal confidence-builder before attempting Kilimanjaro’s higher altitude and longer trekking days.

Do I need special permits to trek Kilimanjaro or other mountains?

Yes. Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru, and the Mahale Mountains require permits to enter and trek, while the Usambara Mountains don’t require permits. Ajabu Adventures handles all logistics and permits, so all you have to do is simply enjoy the journey.

When is the best time to visit Tanzania’s mountains?

The dry seasons, from June to October and January to February, provide optimal trekking conditions. Rainy months can make trails slippery and less accessible, especially in Mahale and Meru.

Can mountain treks be combined with safaris or beach trips?

Absolutely. Pair your climbing adventure with game drives through nearby national parks, cultural experiences, or Zanzibar’s pristine beaches for the trip of a lifetime.

What are the packing essentials for a mountain trek in Tanzania?

Pack light! Layers, sturdy hiking boots, a hat, sunscreen, and binoculars. For Kilimanjaro, additional cold-weather gear is needed for summit attempts. Ajabu Adventures provides a detailed packing list for each trek.
